Functional Medicine Program

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.

Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

How we practice functional medicine:

At Santelli Functional Wellness, we provides a step-by-step protocol and guidance to living a healthier way of life. Dr. Sara Santelli and Debra Santelli intend their practices to be incorporated with ease and eventually become second nature. Both work to move people away from quick fix diet fads and random supplementation; practices, which do not address lifestyle changes and clinical diagnosis, that ultimately fail in the end.

Whether treating a current disease or preventing one; optimizing your health through realistic meal plans, supplementation, blood chemistry analysis, and laboratory testing, clinical nutrition stands to benefit everyone.

What makes this nutrition program so unique is that it is based solely on the patient's individual biochemistry. This is a process in which the patient will not only learn about their body and nutritional needs, but gain the educational tools to prevent future illness and live a happier and healthier lifestyle.

The goal is a maintenance plan after the clearance of initial concerns. Patients are then placed on a general check-up schedule and monitored for optimal health and disease prevention.

At Santelli Functional Wellness we look forward to educating and helping our patients to live a vibrant and healthy lifestyle!

Expectations of initial visit:

All first time patients will be scheduled a one hour initial consultation, reviewing an in-depth assessment of the patient's case history, current lifestyle habits, and health goals.

From there, a customized testing schedule will be advised to fit your own personal needs. Upon approval of testing, we will send the appropriate test kits to your home address and/or upload lab orders through your patient portal for completion. All testing and payment for testing is done through 3rd party laboratories, outside of our office. (See Functional Medicine Testing page for more information).

Once all test results from your testing schedule are received, your Clinical Case Review appointment will be scheduled. At this appointment, Dr. Santelli will review all complete lab findings as well as create your individualized protocol (this can include any dietary changes, lifestyle changes, and supplement schedules.)
